Great list of things to do in my hometown! I always cringe when reading "must-see" lists that only include the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Disneyland, Universal Studios and more. You've listed some great ideas!

I'd also add Olvera Street, just near downtown L.A. Though it's become overrun with touristy souvenirs and kitschy booths, this is still the best place for authentic, mouth-watering Mexican food, and margaritas that pack a punch! Looks like the website is a bit spotty (http://www.olvera-street.com/html/olvera_street.html), but a visit to this "birthplace" of Los Angeles is definitely worth it!

Gray, I think you'd be ok. Just use GPS or get directions because it's not very obvious.

Amy - Sounds awesome; any Thai recommendations? I love Thai coffee too.

Abbie, I figured you would comment on the hiking.

Cherie, these are TOTALLY up your alley. Especially Watts. Don't miss it.

Martino, that's a shame - isn't that their job?

3 of your 4 things are on my list of "must dos" when I finally get to L.A. (someday). I'd never heard of the Watts Towers. Good to know. I probably wouldn't go there by myself, though.

Ah!! I have to add Watts tower for my future trip back to LA. We love the Griffith at night. Amazing view and a perfect place to watch the Sunset.

My offbeat thing to do in LA is visiting Thai Town. It's not as big as China town or anything but you can get amazing food where Thai people go for their food and dessert. :)

Great stuff Andy. Love these sort of ideas. Went to Vienna last summer and a girl from the tourist board approached me:
Girl: "can I tell you about Vienna"
Me: "sure, tell me something I can't read in your tourist guide"
Girl: "err, goodbye"
