53 Places To Go
There are plenty of video collections on various travel shots around the globe. But this one from the New York Times is excellent for two reasons.
- Because it’s got some fantastic ideas for new destinations – like places you might not of heard of (Isle of Sylt, Germany?) or places you maybe forgot (rural Hungary anyone?)
- The video is set to Coldplay. I love them. There are a lot of beach destinations – but that’s not such a terrible thing. Enjoy!
A Video Post That Will Make you Smile – Travel the World with Matt
We’ve not been watching any videos here for awhile, but this one happened to catch my eye. It’s one of the few that made me smile the entire four minutes and 29 seconds. Sure, the dancing is pretty cheezy – not only Matt’s, but check out the whacko stuff going on in the background – some funky chicken dances going on.
I also love some of the locations – very well chosen and some spectacular shots (especially with the ocean wave crashing… I wonder how many takes it took, Matt?
)
I hope this post brought a smile to your face and made you reminisce about an inspiring travel destination that you’ve been to and miss, or you saw a new place to add to your growing list of inspirational achievements to be had!
Happy Weekend everyone.

Have you heard of Improv Everywhere? They are a band of improv geniuses who swarm in on the everyday situation and attack with their own style and brand of art.
Here is one of my favourite videos of a stunt they pulled in New York City’s Grand Central Station.
Next time you are in New York, be sure to keep your wits about you in case you find yourself in the midst of an Improv Everywhere event. I’m dying to see one of these in person. If you want to know more about the troup, visit the Improv Everywhere website. If you’re not in New York, don’t fret, there is an Urban Prankster Network hopefully causing trouble in your next travel destination. They remind me of the fun one can have with some of the cities that have great street performers. Who’s seen that guy who hides behind the tree branch in San Francisco? What about those amazing opera singers and violinists in Vienna? Never mind the great performances you hear in the New York subway (and the terrible ones underground in the Chicago ‘L’ stations).
Has anybody witnessed an Improv Everywhere event? Where was it? Tell us the story!

Steve Moon has posted this excellent collection of photos, asking you the question what is the FIRST word that comes into your head. Steve’s comments on the photos:
Just a few of my photographs during my year travelling around the world – hope it inspires anyone in some way.
“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.”
Henry David Thoreau
What were some of the first words that came into your head?

Today’s post is a fun travelogue from Tom O’Rourke, featuring some hilarious commentary on the unusual travel topics of Irish Whiskey and Italian Communists. A tiny bit of cursing in the last minute or so.

Last week I posted the video How to ride an elephant, which got a lot of laughs from folk on Twitter. I didn’t realise that the video was from TripFilms channel on Youtube. I went to check out their website, and see that it is full of fun videos about destinations all over the world. Most of them are surprisingly professional, not to mention snappy and informative.

How To Ride An Elephant
I noticed on my upcoming tour of Cambodia that there is an opportunity to do some elephant riding, which isn’t something that I thought particularly interesting. However, it looks like a good laugh, as you’ll see from the following video taken in Thailand. The lesson learned? Be prepared to get wet.
Have you rode an elephant? Should I do it? Tell us in the comments.

In my world travels, I never cease to be impressed by the quality and caliber of street performers around the world. From the busker in New Zealand’s World Busker Festival to the singers in London’s Covent Garden to the unique displays in the subways of New York, street performance art is a part of the social fabric in many places world-wide.
That’s why I was so pleased to hear about the Playing for Change Foundation, an organisation helping to build music schools for communities in need. They’ll be releasing a CD in the spring 2009 which includes songs from performers in various cities.
You don’t have to wait until the spring – you can listen to the classic Stand by Me montage now:
