I had no idea the word "serendipity travel" was already coined. The word just popped into my head, serendipitously, so I Googled it. Thanks for the confirmation of what this type of travel entails. It confirms what we been doing for the last month on our 365 day trip abroad.

[...] I hope to be back in Melbourne early next year in combination with another trip. There’s just something about it that keeps drawing me back – who knows, someday I might just live there. But for now, I’ll be happy to fantasise about its golden beaches and turquoise ocean, shimming skyscrapers, blindingly white smiles and the smells of yummy foods. Some of the best things to do in Melbourne are just being there, walking around, and seeing what find. It is a great place for serendipity travel.
I love #2 - Wander. It's such a great feeling, being in a new place for the very first time and just being able to discover it on your own without system or structure, just walking along its roads, and then finding a quaint little shop or restaurant tucked away in some street corner.

Incidentally, I recently wrote about serendipitous travel moments on my blog too!

@Akila - Chest colds and monk funerals? If that's serendipity, then I'm in love. :)

We are beginning to get quite good at indulging in serendipity and actually talked about it in a post that we wrote a while back about how a chest cold landed us at a gorgeous funeral of the senior monk in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Serendipity makes for great travel stories, too!
