I love the idea of this list. While I have done a good amount of traveling, I wouldn't call myself an expert -- I'm still wary of going to places too far off the beaten path -- so I love the idea of using these places as launch pads. If you go make sure you get out of Reykjavik and see some of the country. The picture I took above was up in North-Eastern Iceland near the volcano Krafla. There were barely any ropes or barriers- I kept worrying people were going to fall into the boiling mud! I have a whole slew of Iceland pictures up on my site, so if you're interested drop on by. It is definitely on the list of places we want to go but it is so expensive to go there. I am so excited about New Zealand - we are going to be there in the end of October and Japan is one of our top must see destinations. We're hoping to hit it in cherry blossom season. We want to go to all of them too! We could have gotten a cheap vacation to Iceland this passed winter because of their recent bankruptcy. Package tours were going for cheap cheap cheap. We should have. We just didn't know if we would be happy being there for only a week and why go in the winter? We are cold enough here in Canada! But really, we should have done it. I haven’t been to any of those places except Japan. We want to go to all of them too!
