Happy New Year Link Love
As I’ve been exhausted in a travel rush to get back to Edinburgh for Hogmanay, one of the best places on earth to ring in the New Year (Nomadic Matt forgot to mention it on his list but Wandalulst did.). So instead of a post today I thought I’d share some of the travel tips and info I’ve gleaned on my laptop from airport WiFi across the globe. Happy Reading!

- It wouldn’t be the New Year without strange new year traditions, nevermind the weird things that drop on New Year’s Eve. I think they missed the huge high heeled shoe in Key West
- Scotland is a hot news item at the moment, with a travel to Scotland podcast, information on travelling Scotland by train, a lovely tale about a white Christmas in Scotland, and a reminder about the upcoming Scottish Snowdrop Festival. See – I told you it was the world’s best small country.
- I love this totally random to-do item for New York City – hidden subway art.
- My co-blogger Amanda Kendle at Europe A La Carte has a great post on Vagabondish that is a must-read for foodie travellers
- Peter Greenberg is keeping our dirty laundry in check.
- Worldhum declares the end of the staycation but Chris Elliott predicts 2009 as the year for the naycation. I hope that both of them are wrong.
- Lastly, I leave you with the most bizarre long-haul travel suggestion I have ever heard.
So, where did you spend New Year’s Eve? Would you recommend it as a must-experience? Tell us in the comments.

I spent NYE in CoCo Beach, Costa Rica. I recommend Costa Rica anytime of year, but if you don’t like crowds don’t come here for New Year’s.
However, the town of CoCo Beach is small enough that you are never in a crowd for long so it is quite a site to see all the Ticos celebrate with drink and dance.

Thanks Sara – I’ve just received an email from a PR rep in Costa Rica in reply to another query I had, so it sounds like the place to be! I’ll make a note in my diary for December 2009.
