Less is more is so true, but sometimes I can't help myself! I get worried that there are clothing scenarios I'm not thinking of. But inevitably, when the trip is over, there are usually a couple/few items of clothing that I haven't used. So, I agree, travelers should really trust your advice on that one.

Shannon, you are so right about the packing cubes and packing lockers. There are also packing pouches for jewelry and ties! My necklaces used to get all tangled in toothbrushes and mascara tubes; so annoying.

Ok, tennis balls on a trip: genius! I was recently on a vacation in the Bahamas with my family and you do a lot of swimming and walking and water-slides, etc. that you don't normally do on a daily basis. Sore muscles can result and this is a great idea. Thanks, Travel Ninja, I am going to use this advice and tell others as well!

re: toiletries: I always get stuff from Lush ahead of time. Most of their soaps are solid and only require a piece of wax paper around it if storing in a backpack. This can be good or bad depending on how you look at it, but you have an instant room air freshener (and if youve stayed in a dorm at a hostel you know theyre desperately needed) and your clothes will always smell like a Lush store...which can get obnoxious. I recommend their Godiva hair shampoo. One bar lasted me 3 months on the road.

Love the Ninja analogy :)

The "less is more" or "when in doubt, leave it out" attitude will never let you down.

Totally agree with packing vitamins and some basic meds. I always have a few things on hand, enough to deal with mild travel related ills for a day or two. I travel solo most of the time and the last thing I want to do is run around a strange town looking for a pharmacy when I'm feeling under the weather.

I'm a fan of packing cubes - particularly if you're backpacking. They make life an absolute cinch and you can repack incredibly fast! :-)
