Improv Everywhere: Will they be at your next destination?

by Andy Hayes

Have you heard of Improv Everywhere? They are a band of improv geniuses who swarm in on the everyday situation and attack with their own style and brand of art.

Here is one of my favourite videos of a stunt they pulled in New York City’s Grand Central Station.

Next time you are in New York, be sure to keep your wits about you in case you find yourself in the midst of an Improv Everywhere event. I’m dying to see one of these in person. If you want to know more about the troup, visit the Improv Everywhere website. If you’re not in New York, don’t fret, there is an Urban Prankster Network hopefully causing trouble in your next travel destination. They remind me of the fun one can have with some of the cities that have great street performers. Who’s seen that guy who hides behind the tree branch in San Francisco? What about those amazing opera singers and violinists in Vienna? Never mind the great performances you hear in the New York subway (and the terrible ones underground in the Chicago ‘L’ stations).

Has anybody witnessed an Improv Everywhere event? Where was it? Tell us the story!
