Much as I love Paris, Siobhan, Nimes inspired me in a completely different way and there are so many things to see and experiences to have within a couple hours of the city that it’s well worth a visit. I plan to go back one day.

I watched a bullfight there too, Patricia. That was one Nimes experience that I didn’t find inspiring.

Shirley – this made me very home-sick for France (not that I am French – but we spend so much time there!) And reminded me very much of our stay in the nearby Roman town of Arles.

We didn’t make it to Nimes, but would second that Les Baux de Provence and the Camargue are quite wonderful!

Arles was home to Van Gogh and Gaugin for about 18 months – and it’s worth going to visit just to see some of the sites immortalised in Van Gogh’s most spectacular period.

I can’t wait to go back )

Love the post, Sharon. It so much reminds me of my own experience of Nimes. I watched something much more gory than a tennis match in the Arenes. Would you believe a bullfight?
