Inspiring Travel Monthly Roundup – June Edition
Yes, it’s that time again! I’m very pleased to present this month’s Inspiring Travel Monthly Roundup. The breadth of interesting travel experiences continues to impress me, and I always enjoy a quiet evening reading through the adventures of my fellow travellers. This month seems to be the “film edition” – keep reading and you’ll see the connection.
Anyway, let the show begin!
We start out the month in Italy with Christine and her blog My Thoughts on…Me, My Kid, and My Life. I loved her article submission about a short photo tour of Civitavecchia, a small town that I’ve not been to but it sounds charming. Well, the food sounds good, I’m not so sure about the toenail clipper! (PS – Christine, I love Basel too!)

Heading east, Rambling Brooke takes us on a tour of Lithuania. The castles look charming and that last sunset is *gorgeous*. Lithuania is definitely on my list – thanks Brooke for a few good ideas!

Everyone has seen the popular movie The Motorcycle Diaries (if you haven’t then please, get the DVD – it’s good!) which takes place in Argentina. However, few consider Europe as a good choice for a motorcycle trip. However, Sean wrote in and his tour certainly looked quite worthwhile – check out his European motorcycle trip.

Peter over at Thailand Essentials wrote in this month with an essential “get away from those crowds” tip this month: Hua Hin. Believe or not, the highlights in this Thai hideaway include wineyards and golfing. The best part – even here, though you can just lay around in the sun on your terrace if you want. Thanks Peter!

If you’re like me, you’ll agree that the best way to see a city is on foot. So naturally I welcomed the suggestions sent in by Elizabeth from her blog The Natural Capital about car-free hikes in Washington D.C. This is part two of a series. Excellent stuff.

The travelling mamas write in this month with a fantastic suggestion to celebrate America’s birthday this year, the 4th of July. Spending the holiday in New York City, you’ll be one of the first to take advantage of the re-opening of the Statue of Liberty. Hooray!

Jack Schmidt writes in with a helpful reminder on how to know when you need a vacation. His cheerful wit and useful tips will make sure you don’t end up like Jack Nicholson in The Shining.

For some reason I’ve had quite a few people asking for tips on Berlin for summer trips. If I had known, I would have sent them to this month’s very informative post on Parks in Berlin. The city has some amazing and enormous parks; in summer they really become the social hotspots of the city. Well researched article!

Myscha is obviously a well experience traveller based on the extensive number of tips provided in her article, how to travel light and low budget. It’s very useful article and some great ideas (although sorry Myscha, the fishing vests are too extreme for me!
). If you’re about to fly a low cost carrier with ridiculous luggage fees (Ryanair, anyone?) I suggest checking this post out.

April wanted to mention to us some of the options available for eco tourism in North Florida. I suppose many miss North Florida completely in preference for the sunny tourism spectacles down south, so the fact that these are eco-friendly options is even better!

If you love a good film then you’ll love this article about travel destinations in cinema. Count how many you’ve been, then make your reservations for the rest. I’ve been to 7 out of 10 which I thought was pretty good.

A quick stop in Cozumel, Mexico with The DC Traveler confirms that everything is ok despite a huge drop in tourism due to the swine flu scare. I’ve always been a huge fan of Mexico, and I hope the country’s tourism industry recovers.

Thanks everyone for your great work. Be sure to get your best articles in by the 30th of June for next month’s edition. Here’s the submission form.

What a great recap. Loved that you added photos to each. Thanks for hosting the Carnival!!
The photo of the park in Berlin looks remarkably like the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC, complete with cherry blossoms in bloom.
