I'm excited that 2010 will include trips to Washington DC, Philadelphia, the UK & Ireland, Italy, and... I'm working on more plans, too!

I also made a pledge to do a Project365 this year -- taking a photo each day and posting it. So far I'm 40 days in, and I'm loving it. I'm looking outside right now and seeing sunshine... it's about time to get out there to shoot photo #41. You can check out my Project365 in my blog's sidebar: http://www.gypsysguide.com/

I love reading the comments on here. It's heartening hearing how much other people love to travel too. And I hope those people that have kids get out there in 2010. These great destinations are there for everyone.

Next up for us: Japan, Greece or India.

I don't like planning either and love spontaneous trips at least for the weekends. But most people can't avoid planning especially who has full time jobs and must inform about holidays they want to take far in advance.

P.S. Trip to Nepal in a month, can't wait :)

Audrey - you definitely know whether the world is a scary place or not. We rely on you for that information. :-)

Doreen - I'd love to see Manitoba! (I bet others here would too.)

I really agree with Maria's comment. I've been doing travel writing for 10 years now and have seen a good part of the world. Before I started travelling for a living, I really wanted to move away from my homebase of Manitoba, Canada to somewhere warmer -- and perhaps more exotic. But the more I travel, the more redeeming factors I see in my home province. So although I despise winter, I can get through it by getting away for a couple of weeks each winter and still be here the rest of the year to enjoy all the wonderful attributes we have right here at home.

Maria - Wow, I wouldn't agree more. Here's to exotic hometowns everywhere!

I completely agree with the concept of fear and travel expressed at the end of the article: "The thing is, the world isn’t a scary place. Yes, there are some places that are less safe than others, but for the most part, if you keep your head on your shoulders and your wits about you, traveling is as safe as going to the local park."

Most people don't think of travel as a way to personal development, but I believe that pushing yourself to go outside your comfort zone (which travel does every day) and getting over a fear of the rest of the world (and its people) does contribute to greater understanding - and confidence - of yourself.

Happy Travels in 2010!
