My Father-in-law!
Before my husband passed away a couple years back he always watched over all of us to make sure we had everything we needed.
Since he has passed away my Father-in-law has let me and my daughter stay with him rent free and he is a huge part of me and my daughters life.
He works very hard and never asks for anything. He is always concerned about everyone else but himself and has not taken a vacation in MANY MANY years! Apart from a weekend get-a-way someplace close that we would have to talk him into!
He is a great father and Human being!
Both me and my daughter love him very much!
What dad do you think deserves to travel more this year, and why?
My father definitely deserves to travel more this year as he has a had a rough one. Affected by the global recession he was let go from his job of 37 years. He has worked hard all his life always wanting to give the best and the most to my mother, sister and I. Now with out a job he has a bit of a new found freedom and along with my mother wants to get out and explore the world!
I owe so much of who I am as traveler to my Dad. Even though he only got a passport in the past ten years he showed my brother and I every corner of the USA. One summer he took a three month sabbatical, bought a motor home and drove our whole family around the country.I learned a lot from our road trips about trip planning and the joy of traveling.
Now that I’m a grown-up he’s so supportive of my various trips and adventures around the world. I’d love to take him on an adventure of his own!
My dad deserves to travel more this year.
Daddio always loved to travel, whether as a pilot or as Chief Navigator of Family Roadtrips. He embraces the ups, downs and “this wasn’t my exit-s” of travel with a childlike excitement and willingness to go with the flow. He always talks about the travel adventures he’d like to have, especially with us kids, but money and time have kept him from being able to pursue those adventures. One of the adventures he always talked about was hiking the Grand Canyon. Another is taking a cruise. And the latest is a roadtrip across the southwest US, “just because.” I’m hopeful that we’ll get a chance to venture off on one of those journeys sometime soon. Daddio gave my brothers and me many adventures, laughs and memories throughout our childhood. I would love to be able to repay that, one journey at a time!
My husband would absolutely lose his **** over the jet fighter adventure.
He’s the best dad ever, and always puts us ahead of himself. If my kids could shop or had money of their own, I know they’d totally get him that.
My Dad deserves to travel more this year!
He loves the outdoors and is an avid Boy Scout volunteer, but rarely hast he opportunity to go camping because of his intense work schedule. Every time he is outside – whether skiing, hiking or lifeguarding, he is rejuvenated.
My favorite memory of a travels with my dad? We went up to a lake in southern New Hampshire where he decided to teach my siblings and I how to create life preservers out of regular clothes. He jumped into the lake in 90 degree weather wearing jeans and a flannel shirt, then demonstrated how to inflate the clothes on your body if you needed to save your life. What a rock star.
My husband has been amazing these past couple of years. As my work requires quite a bit of travel, he’s been a wonderful and supportive father to our 2 little boys.
I often feel guilty (mom guilt!) for focusing so much on my business, but he’s always there to love me and remind me that the greatest thing in the world that I can teach our sons is to follow your dreams.
My father deserves to travel this year! My Dad is 64 and is fighting diabetes. Last year he lost his right leg to the disease and has been working very hard ever since to get up out of that wheelchair! He goes to therapy everyday and is working on his diet to get in more proteins and carbs to get his muscles stronger. While he will not be up for a Jet Fighter Experience, a ski trip or a sailing adventure… he would be up for a simple night out for dinner or something a little relaxing. He really just needs some time out of the house to feel “normal” again. To feel like the strong, vibrant Dad I’ve always known. Only travel can do that for the human soul. I love you Dad!
I think my brother deserves to travel more this year! He’s a brand-new daddy – my niece is less than a month old right now, and she was born around a month earlier than her due date. he’s taken off work for 5 weeks to be with his wife and daughter, and he’s so patient — what a great daddy!
My husband gives a great deal to our three kids and he loves nothing more than to go someplace, sit and enjoy. He’d probably opt for the B&B stay with a great view, but he might surprise me and choose the jet fighter adventure!
My dad deserves to travel more this year and here’s why:
- My dad is is the epitome of unselfish love. He adopted me when I was 5 and has always made me feel very loved and cared for.
- My dad’s mobility is declining each year. He’s still able to get around fairly well, so I’d love for him to be able to take advantage of that with some travel.
- My dad has never really traveled much. Money was always tight with us when we were growing up and travel was very much a luxury.
Through thick or thin, he was always there. Regardless if it was a time of conflict or a time of peace, he was behind me…even if I turned my back. He is more than a father of two; he is the indestructible foundation on which our family of four was built upon. When it comes to travel, we may not agree on which parts of the world to visit but we do agree on one thing, being outdoors. My greatest travel memoires with him consist of camping, hiking, kayaking and skiing in Pennsylvania, New York and New England. He was a man raised with little but he did everything to give his two daughters the world. He did; now, I am a writer and teacher that has traveled through Europe and Latin America. I cannot bare the thought of what my life would have been like without him. I truly believe that, now, he deserves an adventure of his own.
My dad deserves to win because he’s an incredibly hard worker that rarely reaps the benefit of his effort. He’s smart, charismatic, handsome, and he always does a good job in his work. I wish I could give him the world and take care of him and my mom so that they never had to worry about anything …but I can’t. Since I can’t give him the world, if I could give him a small piece, that would be amazing.

My choice would be my father-in-law, Richard King. After 35 years of faithful service as a private and public school educator, he will be retiring this summer. He has devoted his entire career to helping students achieve their dreams. He has inspired generations of students to become model citizens, business professionals, doctors and nurses, engineers, teachers, caring spouses and loving parents. He maintains a positive attitude, despite the challenges of the job. He achieves respect by giving respect. He shares a smile with everyone he meets. Like most teachers, he was often overworked and under-appreciated… but that never stopped him from doing the best job possible. As we all know, teaching today is not for the faint of heart. It requires dedication and a sense of higher calling. What better way to reward his three decades of service than with a little bit of traveling?
I would choose my husband, Chris, for all that he does for me and our family. We have five children and he works very hard to make sure our needs are always met first.
In addition to supporting our family, he serves on the Parent’s Committee of two choirs our children sing in. He also serves as chairman of a community-based organization that is committed to the protection and preservation of Central Florida’s natural resources, effective growth management efforts, and the education and training of the region’s citizens.
For the past two years he has been working full-time while working to complete his Master’s degree. The coursework has taken up many of his weekends… times that would normally be spent on day trips or at a local park.
Since his graduation last month, he has more time to do things HE enjoys. It would be great to treat him to a special travel experience. He deserves to travel. I hope you will consider him!
I think my brother-in-law deserves to travel more. He and my sister are coming up on 10 years of marriage, and just recently found out that their two year old son has a rare chromosomal disorder which will make his life very difficult.
Jack will probably never talk, and will never be able to live on his own or care for himself. He doesn’t feel pain like other kids, so it’s a constant struggle to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself. He reacts badly to new situations and new environments, and his special schooling and therapies are very expensive so my sister and my brother-in-law have not taken a real vacation since he was born. I’d love to see them leave Jack and his 6-year old sister at home and go on an unforgettable adventure for just the two of them.
Any man that has influenced the mind of a child and that child has developed into a adult, who’s priority is to influence there own child that is a “Father”
What dad do you think deserves to travel more this year, and why?
I would have to say my step dad. Even though he is real sick now he always wanted to do so much more travelling than he did. He is always there for me and it sure would be nice to give him a really special fun gift.
What dad do you think deserves to travel more this year, and why?
My dad!
After leaving the country for the first time in over 10 years to visit me while I studied in Spain, he didn’t exactly have the BEST time (i.e. smoke-filled restaurants, pushy metro-ers, drunken youths), but he sucked it up to make me happy and would try to be positive in a country I loved.
But, travel is my passion in life and I want nothing more than for him to enjoy leaving San Francisco (home) every now and then and finally give himself (and my mom) something more than the ordinary. I want him to discover a love for experiencing new things (not just watching it on TV). I’ve heard him talk about surfing, ATVing, and countless destinations he admires, but never actually goes (money, convenience, etc)! He has given his children the biggest opportunities and holds back on his own; he’s not old enough to pull that card!
Joe Morales, my father. He was born in Mexico, brought here by his mother at a youg age. He graduated from high school and was drafted into the US Army. He served and was honorably discharged. He met my mother, also from Mexico the day she arrived to the states to start a new life as a nurse in what was to become her new home. They married and raised two daughters. Their oldest was born with a disease that made her life a little difficult but he never told she couldn’t do something. She was encouraged to do what she loved and he always stood by her. When the teasing and name calling would become too much he would embrace and comfort her and save his tears for later. It was always about her. He taught her to be tough, that some people were going to tease her no matter what but that she should give back as good as she got and show people that little did not mean weak. After many years in this country he began the process to become an American citizen. It was a very long process but he had made up his mind, he loves this country and will not be leaving here, it was time. After almost two years he became a citizen, his wife and two daughters were there with him and it was one on the best days of their lives. He is a wise, tough, sarcastic, proud, hard working man and he is my father, Joe Morales
The answer to this question is surprisingly similar to all the other answers posted above… MY DAD deserves to travel more this year! Why? Well, for starters, he’s never been out of the country. That’s right kids, my dad’s a self-proclaimed hermit who’s never ventured out of his comfort zone. He bussed across the US when we was a teenager but these days it’s a big deal to get him out of his home state.
His daughter (me), on the other hand, has been traveling internationally for over ten years and has spent the last two years living abroad. This leads to a whole lot of time spent NOT seeing my dad; maybe once a year during the holidays. Sometimes not at all.
I could think of nothing better this Father’s Day than a chance to, not only spend time with my dad, but to get him to do something big and bold like TRAVEL!
I think my dad deserves a trip this year because we have had a doozy of a year in my family and he could simply use a break from the stress and constant worrying. He really actually loves to travel but hasn’t been able to get away for more than five years – and in that time has not truly taken a vacation even once! It would be a fantastic surprise for him and I would love to be able to send him off on an adventure
My dad deserves it beacuse he put up with only daughter dropping everything and heading to Europe by herself for several months at the age of 21. He deserves to do his own traveling now that Im finally back. A jet fighter experience would probably be one of the best moments of his life. He flies small planes, builds scale models and attends any air show he can get to.
I missed last fathers day because I was traveling, let me make it up to him!
I think my Dad seriously needs to travel more. The guy has a lot of stress and while he used to travel all the time for work when I was growing up, he doesn’t get to the far flung places so much these days. I think having the chance to travel more this year would do him a world of good.
My girlfriend’s dad loves to fly. This would be a great way to get on his good side.
My dad deserves to travel more this year. He works six days a week and needs a little break. While we have had our ups and downs, we are closer now than ever before due to the arrival of my first born son seven weeks ago. Going to be neat celebrating father’s day with him and my son.
Hi All -
This was such a difficult contest, given the entries and kind words that really pull at the heartstrings. However, our winner, chosen by random draw, is Katie Hammel! Katie, Great American Days will be in touch.
Thanks everyone and happy father’s day!
Andy
