Today’s interview is one of those that I feel like the title of the page pretty much sums up the intro. I found Kosha & Ritesh via the big bad world of Twitter, and was immediately drawn to their down to earth personality that shone through their words and pictures. And with that, I’ll give them the podium…

Could you introduce yourselves?
We are two crazy souls stuck in the Matrix of IT world, presently based in Bangalore, India. Travelers by nature, engineers by profession and day-dreamers at heart, we are the uber cool couple (though we don’t consider ourselves as two separate beings) of Kosha & Ritesh, who are, apart from being crazy about almost every other thing, are totally mad about each other. Both of us being scorpions, we share so so so many things between us. These sweet little coincidences played a huge role of catalyst to spark the passion between us after we met at a common friend’s wedding (paving way to another wedding
). Married for two years, we have still been finding new things and thoughts that are common to both of us. We are the super curious people for everything, be it knowledge, travel, food (yummy…), gadgets, music, etal. We believe in living the life to the fullest and glean small small magical moments from time to create a timeless scrapbook of happiness and love.
The travel bug has stung us hard! We just love to travel and wish to conquer the whole world. India being such a diverse country, we feel that traveling every week is also not enough to see and appreciate all of India. So we are on a constant push to go on traveling as much as we can. The life is too short and we have to make many journeys!
We have been to a lot of places together, from driving 2650 kms across colorful Rajasthan in just 8 days, to driving through the 36 hair-pin bends of Ooty, to the lush green tea estates of Coonoor, to the lovely sights of East-Coast-Road (Chennai to Pondicherry), to the be-jeweled Maldives, to the enticing and mysterious forests of Bandhavgarh, to the geeky Tokyo and majestic Mt. Fuji, to the ever-green and beautiful Kodai Kanal, to the mystic backwaters of Alleppey and to the sounds of the great Nehru Trophy, to the ruins of Halebid & Belur, to the calls of the wild from Thekkady, to the arms of nature at Mt. Tadiyanmol (Coorg), to the quiet and serene Masinagudi. We feel that our journey has just begun, and the world is waiting out there for us to come, see and conquer!
Andy: Absolutely. That old cliché ”The World is Your Oyster” has always been true. Tell the universe you’re coming, and she’ll see to it all the preparations will happen.
Your goal is to travel full-time and long-term. How are you doing with that goal?
We are always planning for a next trip. We have promised ourselves a trip every month. Our jobs put in certain restrictions on us in terms of frequent traveling, so we are trying to develop skills in photography and writing travelogues, which would enable us to become a part of a travel group so that we can earn our living with our travels. This is our long-term plan!
You’ve said “your favorite places are the highways” – what are some of the most amazing highways you’ve travelled on, and why?
Highways. Wow. We just love driving on highways; they give us a sense of freedom! Some of the best highways we have driven on will have to be the highways of Rajasthan, the highway from Chennai to Pondicherry, and the one leading you to Ooty. Rajasthan highways for its sheer smoothness and the awe of driving through the desert, with vast flat arid land on both sides. Its morbid, but its amazing to drive on amazingly straight roads, which makes you feel that one is straight away driving into the horizon. The Chennai-Pondicherry highway is amazing for a refreshing driving parallel to the coast. It’s like, you are chasing the sea and racing along with it. And the Ooty highway, oh boy, for its amazing 36 hair-pin bends one after each other, like testing your guts.

Andy: Sounds amazing. Slightly terrifying if I were driving, but still amazing.
I know you both like food. Tell us about the best meals you’ve had on your travels.
We are strict vegetarians, and that leaves us with few choices at most of the places. And if the chef comes and asks what would you like to have, we are overwhelmed. This happened to us in Maldives, with a special four-course Italian dinner made especially for us. That was the first time we tasted Tiramisu, as we have never found a vegetarian Tiramisu. So undoubtedly we can say that it was the best meal. Apart from that the meals we had on the highways of Rajasthan, at small eateries, were too yummy and finger-licking. Also, eating homely food in the middle of a jungle under a lantern on a tree house was another experience for us on our Bandhavgarh National Park visit.

Andy: I LOVE Indian food. It has such a distinct character and no two dishes are the same.
You’ve also said “nothing can teach you as much as travelling.” Tell me about that – what have you learned that could never be taught in the classroom?
Traveling indeed teaches a lot. It teaches about different cultures, how to deal with different people, and above all, how to survive in not-so friendly conditions. Traveling also brings out hidden fears and helps to tackle them. In short, traveling is the classroom for life.

Andy: I couldn’t agree more. Seeing, feeling, tasting, and breathing a foreign culture means so much more to children and adults alike than a textbook.
What’s been your most inspirational travel experience?
Our most inspirational travel experience has to be our Rajasthan trip. It was an experiment, and we loved it so much that from now onwards all our trips have to be road trips. This has given us a dream, of doing a cross country drive across the US, and to conquer Europe by roads.

What’s at the top of your bucket list?
Ladakh! The beautiful and eye-catching roads of Ladakh are calling for us, and we have to heed to them. Our Ladakh planning has already started and soon you can read our travelogues about the beauty of Ladakh and see the extraordinary mountains and lakes in our pictures.
Thanks for all that wonderful day-dreaming material! To learn more about the adventures of this engineers-turned-travellers, visit their website, Travel with KOsha and RITesh.

Very inspiring story! I can definitely relate to wanting to see everything and trying to conquer the world. My husband and I originally met through a travel site and dated long distance while he was living in the Netherlands, until we decided to get married. I left California to move to Taiwan while he’s here on assignment for 2 years now.
We try to travel at least 1-2 times a month if his schedule allows. Sadly, we are rather limited by the distance we can drive here so we have to fly to other countries for long weekend getaways, where we don’t feel comfortable figuring out how to navigate in a rental vehicle. But, I have fond memories of my husband’s time in Europe and the amazing road trips we did while dating. Kosha and Riteh’s plans for road trips through Europe and the US are ideal – it’s the best way to truly see the various countries.
It’s great they are taking the time to really explore their own country as well – something we all are often guilty of not doing. We fail to explore our own backyard and now that I’ve left the US, I realize how little I have seen in my own home country.
Stories like this are definitely inspiring to those looking to embark on their own world travel journey, but it also shows that even the most exciting of trips can start right at home.
