Want to Live and Work from Anywhere you Choose?
We’ve been talking a little bit about location independent living lately – our most recently location was Phuket and we’ve got more great places to live and work coming up.
As I mentioned recently, Lea over at Location Independent has a ton of fantastic resources if you’re considering a location independent career/business. If this is in your life plan and you’re scared, want help, or want some further reading to help you decide if it is the right thing for you, I highly suggest you check out X Marks the Spot: The Indispensable Guide To Living & Working From Anywhere You Choose.
Who is Lea?
Lea Woodward wrote this 80 page guide to stop procrastinating and get out and see the world while running your business. She runs the hugely popular Location Independent site where she has built a community around helping each other with tips and tricks for detaching those cords holding you down.
I feel quite lucky to have been introduced to Lea. Even though I’ve only known her a few months, she’s been so supportive of my own growing business. She’s offered up tons of free resources on her blog, and if I ever had any questions, a quick shout out and her Location Independent community came running to help. In fact, I doubt I’ll ever travel the world alone again as it seems I now have friends in nearly every port.
I’m now part of the Location Independent “Community Outreach Team” as the Travel Team Leader. I couldn’t be happier – because that means I’ll be spending more time with Lea learning about what makes a place great for business. She’s without a doubt the expert on this topic.
What’s in the book?
I like to think of the book as an instant replay of all Lea’s successes and failures packed up neat and tidy – so you can share the successes and avoid the mistakes. Here’s are some of the fantastic topics covered:
- Where it Started – What was Lea’s inspiration for going Location Independent?
- Designing Your Life – Why not build a path that suits you?
- Key Lessons Learned – What should you do? What should you not do?
- What’s Location Independent Living really Like – Will it work for you? What does location independence look like?
- What are you afraid of – Face your Fears, what’s stopping you? Money? Friends? Or just the “unknown?”
- Your Business – What kind of businesses suit location independence? What tools do you need to succeed?
- Being Nomadic – How to cope – how is location independence different than simply being ‘”on holiday?”
- Planning for Contingencies – What happens if something goes wrong?
It’s a lot of information – but filtered down to the essentials, and only the good stuff. She’s made mistakes and the location independent lifestyle isn’t for everyone – but instead of hiding around the fact, she gives you the information to help you decide if it works for you, and if so, how to do it.
For me, the most powerful quote in the book was this one – this was a trap I had fallen into myself at one time and wouldn’t recommend it.
“ If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.”
- Jim Rohn
Why you should get a copy.
You might be saying “yes, I want to be location independent – this book is for me.” But I suspect many of you aren’t. I was the same – when I started dreaming plans for a fantastic entrepreneurship earlier this year (seems ages ago now, to be honest), I knew I wanted to make more time for travel. But I wasn’t sure if location independence was for me – and to be honest, I’m still working out the level of travel I want in my life. But now I’m armed with facts and information to make the best decision. And guess what? It’s not just about making time to travel. It’s about having an efficient, effective business. It’s about having a business that aligns with your personal wants and your personal needs. A business with personality. A business that you feel good about owning. It’s all of those things and more.
What are you afraid of? Do you:
- worry about having enough money?
- worry about leaving your friends and family?
- worry what would happen if it didn’t work?
Then stop worrying and do something about it! Lea covers all these worries and more, helping you to get started. In fact, even if you don’t want to be location independent but just want a solid, stable, robust business, then the sections of the book about how to actually run a business are invaluable, given all the free Internet resources listed to keep the show on the road regardless of your situation.
How to get yours today.
It’s easy – head on over to the Location Independent site and pick up your copy today. It’s only £15 – how many hours would it take you to find all that information on your own? Even if you’re not sure or not ready yet, I suggest you follow Lea’s wisdom:
” …it really doesn’t matter what you do. The important thing is that you do something. Make a move even if you’re not ready yet.”
So, what are you waiting for?
