I was so happy to see Santorini on the post! I didn’t spend my honeymoon there, but I was a guest at a destination wedding there — the groom’s family were spread all over Greece (I was on the bride’s side) and gathered on Santorini for the wedding. It was the best ten days of my life — and the couple left two days after their wedding to tour a couple of islands for — three weeks! The wedding was held in Fira and we were surrounded by a couple hundred people from all over the world taking pictures and enjoying the singing of the musicians and the Greek family as the bride and groom left the church. We all walked to The Seline restaurant for the reception — a fabulous, beautiful place on the cliff overlooking the Fira harbor. There were hours of music and dancing and gourmet food. I felt like I was in a movie.

Being at a wedding in Santorini has inspired my dreams of renting a villa on one of the islands. By the way — no one shouted Opa!

Mongolia seems not to associate with honeymoon. But it matters more with who you are with than where you are going.

@Kim – Great feedback, and I totally agree. It’s far to easy to over engineer a holiday to the point where it’s never going to meet anyone’s expectations. That’s why this list was called “inspirational” stops, not “perfect” stops because let’s face it – as you imply – no place is perfect.
